Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday, maintaining their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The win, described by Andy Robertson as a "big result," came after a tense second half where Wolves mounted heavy pressure in search of an equalizer.

The Reds took control early, with Luis Díaz opening the scoring before Mohamed Salah doubled their lead from the penalty spot in front of the Kop. However, Matheus Cunha’s second-half goal put Liverpool under significant pressure, forcing them to dig deep to see out the game.

Speaking after the match, Robertson acknowledged the difficulty of holding on to the win, especially after their midweek disappointment in the FA Cup.

Robertson reflects on Liverpool’s performance

After dropping points late against Everton earlier in the week, Liverpool were determined to avoid another setback. Robertson admitted the team had to work hard to secure the win, particularly in the latter stages.

"Yeah, we just managed to dig deep," Robertson told Sky Sports after the match. "Obviously, 2-0 at half-time, we know that can be one of the most dangerous results in football. We had to come out and start well – and we didn’t quite do that."

Robertson also acknowledged that the second half was physically demanding, with Wolves gaining momentum and causing problems for Liverpool’s defense.

"I think the second half was a slog," he continued. "Maybe playing on Wednesday took it out of a few of the lads. But it was all about using the experience we’ve got on the pitch, trying to use everything we’ve got. And I thought we dug deep."

"When they scored, everyone gets nervous – the players get nervous, the crowd gets nervous. Of course, that’s only natural. But it’s a massive win for us and another game down."

Wolves’ second-half push tested Liverpool’s resilience

Liverpool struggled to create scoring opportunities after halftime, allowing Wolves to build pressure. Robertson acknowledged that fatigue might have played a role, but he also credited the opposition for their strong performance.

"It’s maybe part of it, but I thought Wolves were excellent in the second half," he admitted. "They obviously made a couple of changes at half-time. Being 2-0 down, they probably went a little bit more attacking, put more forward players up in the areas. And that made it more difficult for us."

Despite Wolves’ resurgence, Liverpool held firm in the closing moments to secure a vital three points.

Liverpool’s focus turns to consistency

After being eliminated from the FA Cup midweek, Liverpool needed to respond with a strong league performance. Robertson emphasized the importance of getting back to winning ways and using this result as a platform for the rest of the campaign.

"Obviously, after Wednesday and getting put out of the FA Cup, it’s important to get back on a winning streak," he said. "And hopefully, this can be the start of one."

With the title race heating up, Liverpool will now shift their focus to maintaining consistency in their upcoming fixtures. The win over Wolves was a reminder of the challenges they will face, but also their ability to grind out results when needed.
