Reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin has provided an update on his recovery while attending an Aprilia event at the Milan Motoplex. The Spanish rider, who remains sidelined due to multiple fractures, spoke about his rehabilitation but admitted that his return to racing remains uncertain.
Martin was in Milan for the launch of the Aprilia Tuono 457, a new naked bike from the Noale-based manufacturer. Pre-orders for the motorcycle opened on March 7, and the event attracted attention from both industry insiders and MotoGP fans. While present for the promotional event, the Aprilia Racing rider took the opportunity to give a brief—though somewhat vague—update on his current condition.
“I’m here in Motoplex for the first time, also wearing the t-shirt of Aprilia Racing for the first time,” Martin said in a video posted to Aprilia’s Instagram story. “I’m working hard, it’s been a difficult time, but I’m trying to be back as soon as possible. We don’t know exactly when I will be back, but I will try to do it soon. I hope to see you all really soon.”
Martin’s injury timeline and uncertain return
Martin initially suffered injuries during the first pre-season test at Sepang, where he sustained fractures in his right hand and left foot. However, his situation worsened just before the 2025 Thai Grand Prix when he crashed during supermoto training. This second incident resulted in multiple fractures in his left wrist, including damage to the scaphoid—a bone known for its slow healing process.
As a result, Martin was forced to withdraw from the MotoGP season opener in Thailand. Since then, there has been no official confirmation on when he will be fit to return. What is certain is that he will also miss the upcoming Argentina Grand Prix, leaving his participation in the third round in Texas in doubt.
Marquez seizes control in Martin’s absence
With Martin sidelined, Ducati’s Marc Marquez has taken full advantage, establishing himself as the early title favorite. The eight-time world champion dominated the opening round in Thailand, securing pole position and winning both the Sprint and main race. His flawless performance has propelled him to the top of the championship standings.
Marquez now leads the MotoGP title race with 50 points, holding an eight-point advantage over his younger brother, Alex Marquez. Reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia sits third, 14 points behind the series leader. With Martin still recovering, his championship defense is already under significant threat.
As MotoGP heads to Argentina, Martin’s condition will continue to be a focal point. His absence leaves a major gap on the grid, and until a clear recovery timeline emerges, speculation will persist about when—or if—he can mount a serious title challenge in 2025.
