Jorge Martin has officially ruled himself out of the 2025 United States MotoGP at the Circuit of The Americas (CoTA) in Austin, scheduled for March 28-31. However, his concerns extend beyond that, as the reigning MotoGP champion remains uncertain about his chances of returning for the 2025 Qatar MotoGP at the Lusail International Circuit on April 11-13.

Martin’s injury struggles began during the 2025 MotoGP pre-season test at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on February 5, where he suffered multiple fractures in a crash. These injuries not only forced him to withdraw from the remaining pre-season sessions but also disrupted his preparations for the new season.

Determined to return, Martin attempted to get back on the bike before the season opener in Thailand. However, his luck took another turn for the worse. During an individual training session in Lleida, Spain, he suffered another crash, aggravating his wrist injury and further delaying his comeback.

Martin forced to miss early MotoGP rounds

As a result, Martin has missed the first three races of the season, including the Thailand and Argentina rounds, and has now confirmed that he will also sit out the upcoming MotoGP Austin.

In a video shared on MotoGP’s official social media accounts on March 15, 2025, Martin opened up about the challenges of his recovery.

"I really suffered. It wasn't my moment. I struggled to recover as quickly as I wanted," Martin admitted.

Despite his strong desire to return, Martin acknowledged that his physical condition remains a barrier.

"I can say from here, I'm not going to Austin. I want to be there, but I'm not going to race," he added.

MotoGP Austin’s physical demands

The United States Grand Prix at CoTA is one of the most physically demanding races on the calendar. With its mix of sharp corners, elevation changes, and rapid directional shifts, the circuit presents a serious challenge even for fully fit riders. For Martin, pushing himself too soon could risk further setbacks in his recovery.

While his absence in Austin is now confirmed, questions remain about whether Martin will be ready to return for the 2025 Qatar MotoGP. However, even he remains unsure about his timeline.

"I don't know whether I'll go to Qatar. I don't know yet. It's still early days, of course," Martin said.

Uncertain timeline for Martin’s comeback

Recovering from injuries is a complex process, and every rider’s healing time varies. Martin appears unwilling to take unnecessary risks, prioritizing his long-term fitness over rushing back into competition.

If he is also ruled out of Qatar, Martin will have missed the first four rounds of the 2025 season. This would be a major blow to his championship hopes, putting him at a significant disadvantage in the title race.

Martin follows MotoGP from the sidelines

Although he is unable to compete, Martin remains engaged with the championship and is closely following the races.

"It's hard to watch from home, but I'll be following this race week. I'm rooting for Aprilia, hopefully they can improve a little bit and get on the podium," Martin said.

Meanwhile, the 2025 MotoGP Argentina at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo Circuit is set to be a crucial round for riders seeking to gain an early advantage in the standings. With Martin sidelined, competitors such as Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and Aleix Espargaró have a prime opportunity to secure vital points.

Title race intensifies in Martin’s absence

Martin’s absence has already shifted the dynamics of the 2025 championship. While his rivals aim to capitalize on the situation, the big question remains: when will Martin return? For now, his focus remains on recovery, ensuring that when he does return, he will be at full strength to fight for the title.
